Solutions to our public transport problem should make life better, not worse. Solutions should preserve all the good things about our suburbs, and have a lasting, positive effect. Bus Connects must not turn our streets and villages into corridors.

Concerns

Core Bus Corridors 10,11 and 12 will change Terenure, Rathfarnham, Rathgar, Kimmage, Templeogue and Harold’s Cross forever.

Impact on businesses

Loss of on-street parking, loading bays and reduced access will affect the viability of local shops and businesses. Kimmage, Terenure, Templeogue and Rathgar will be severely impacted. If your business is affected by these issues, you will not be compensated.

Traffic

The impact of traffic rerouting has not been determined the the NTA. Some roads will experience a huge surge in traffic volume.Due to road closures, re-routing, and more lanes being assigned to buses, there will be significant congestion and rat-runs generated by cars, trucks and vans.

Property

Lands, gardens, driveways, walls, trees and greenery will be lost to compulsory purchase order (CPO). If your property is affected by CPO, compensation will be offered. However, if your property does not come under CPO, yet the value is adversely affected, you will not be offered any compensation.

Will everyone benefit?

Main bus corridors may move faster but smaller routes may be less frequent or disappear. Multiple bus changes may be required meaning the disabled, the elderly, or people with small children may find bus travel impossible.

Environment

No environmental impact study has been performed to date. There will be reduction of footpaths, removal of trees, greenery and gardens, increased urbanisation, a loss of general amenity and increase in air and noise pollution.

Heritage

Historic streetscapes of Dublin 6, 6W and 14 will be eroded by road widening. Hundreds of properties, protected and unprotected from Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco periods will be affected. There will be corridors instead our historic villages and roads.
